Field‑ready sampling systems
POST |
Field measurements place very practical demands on both equipment and workflow.
Recently, we welcomed the Marine team Fyn (Funen), part of the Styrelsen for Grøn Arealomlægning og Vandmiljø (Agency for Green Transition and Aquatic Environment), to MacArtney as part of their annual excursion.
Across Danish waters, their teams conduct repeated measurements of oxygen conditions, water-column structure, and environmental parameters to monitor changes in oxygen depletion and nutrient transport over time.
To support this work, we have delivered field‑ready sampling systems that combine sensor setups with MacArtney‑engineered frames and topsides. Configurations range from compact single-sensor units to customised Sea-Bird Scientific carousel systems, with real-time data and logging across all units, supported by SubConn® connectivity to ensure stable power and data connections.
The systems are developed for daily monitoring from smaller vessels such as RIBs and compact workboats, where repeated deployments place demands on both handling and setup. Frame geometry, lifting points and overall weight are designed for single‑person operation and straightforward setup, reducing complexity on deck and supporting efficient work across many stations.
During the visit, we shared perspectives from ocean science projects and field operations. Hans-Jørgen Hansen presented experiences from his expedition to the North Pole, where preparation, handling, and equipment reliability are essential under demanding conditions.
For monitoring programmes like these, consistency is as important as the individual measurement. Sensor configuration, power and data connections, and handling must remain stable and comparable from one campaign to the next.
“Our teams support the work in practice”, says Service & Aftersales Manager Troels Jessen Lassen: “Through maintenance, calibration, and ongoing follow-up, we help ensure that systems are ready for deployment and the next series of measurements.”
Thank you for the visit and for sharing insights from your work in the field.
