Post | Marlin in action.
We are excited to support the Jesuit High School ROVotics team, who just wrapped up a stellar season at the International MATE ROV COMPETITION.
🏆 2nd place overall
✅ Poster award, featured in the Journal of Ocean Technology
✅ Using MacArtney SubConn connectors
✅ ROV name: Marlin
Marlin is a modular, student-built, competition ROV equipped with mission-specific tools for real-world ocean challenges. It features:
→ ROS2-based software for advanced autonomy
→ A versatile aluminium frame and powerful electronics
→ Smart systems like yaw-lock for angular stability and MABS for buoyancy control
This student-built system has already been used to construct 3D coral models, launch GO-BGC floats, and lift milk crates from the seafloor, demonstrating professional-grade ambition and hands-on innovation.
MacArtney is proud to support student teams in ocean technology across competitions with varying formats, judging criteria, and participant pools. We love seeing the energy, curiosity and real innovation these teams bring to the subsea world.
Spotted in the competition crowd: Martin Klein (in blue), sidescan sonar pioneer and a regular at the event. His presence serves as a reminder of how far ocean exploration has come and how promising the future looks in the field.
