MVP

The Brooke Ocean Technology Moving Vessel Profiler is a unique data collection system designed to measure sound velocity and oceanographic data near vertically from a high speed surface vessel. The winch launch system automatically deploys a free fall fish and cable at a rate, which overcomes the effect of the forward movement of the ship. On reaching deployment the winch is braked and recovered automatically to the surface where it can be launched repetitively from a towed position or winched to the overboard sheave and latched.

The MVP is computer controlled and thus does not require the hands on technical monitoring required by comparable systems. The system offers considerable time and cost savings over expendable and on station casting. The MVP fish has a significant payload thus extending the scope, over expendables, of data available form a single profile.

The Moving Vessel Profiler has been developed jointly with and is currently in service at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography, DFO, Canada.
